Ruben Borralho – Kase international partner

My passion for photography began with a borrowed camera — one that belonged to my friend’s father. It was through this friend that I first discovered the fascinating world of photography. But my connection to the arts started even earlier, with a love for painting and drawing. As a child, I was always doodling, captivated by the act of creation.

My journey into photography followed the analogue path. I experimented with developing my own film, even going as far as mixing chemical solutions purchased from pharmacies and drugstores. The darkroom held a special kind of magic for me, and to this day, I believe black and white photography has a unique, timeless quality.

In 1985, I bought my first reflex camera, a Praktica B20 with a 50mm f/1.8 lens, which I still own. For a long time, life’s circumstances put my passion on hold, but years later, with the gift of a digital camera, that spark was reignited. From that moment on, I never looked back.

Over the years, my experience in photography has expanded across multiple genres, including landscapes, macro, portraits, maternity, and newborn photography. As a freelancer, I also worked in food photography, product shoots, and interior design.

My work has been showcased in both solo and group exhibitions, with several pieces published in photography magazines. I have won various competitions, including first and second place in the 2005 Castelo Branco Parish Council Photography Contest. Internationally, I received an Honorable Mention in the 2008 Microsoft Future Pro Photographer competition, along with recognition from various online photography communities.
